New Collection June 2023
A question I frequently get asked at markets surrounds how I create pieces for a collection. I usually answer that I look for holes in my larger body of work and try to fill them. I’m also trying to draw my designs before I create so that I can see the larger ideas as a whole before I get into the details of creating each piece.
However, this month I needed to change things up. I needed to play a little more. For me, ‘playing’ with polymer clay often looks like trying to use my scrap clay and combine it in new and interesting ways. I also like to try out new techniques and see how things go. Remember the beads I bought back in October? I talked about them on Instagram and TikTok, and they have been hanging on the wall since then and I haven’t known what to do with them.
So this month’s collection has incorporated a little bit of all of these things. I’ve highlighted a couple of the categories below, but navigate over to the shop to check out the collection in full.
I love how these turned out with the beads - they have so much movement and they feel so good in your hands:
I used a new technique to create these earrings for the 4th of July:
Perfect for the 4th of July, these earrings feature red, white, and blue clay that practically swirls off the surface! Choose from a variety of shapes. Due to the handmade nature of these earrings, each pair will contain slight variations. Style 1 measures 1.25 inches long by 1 inch wide. Style 2 measures 1.6 inches long by .8 inches wide.
And another new technique for these earrings. They have such cool depth and shine due to the translucent clay, resin, and rose gold leaf:
These earrings feature layers of brown and translucent clay interspersed with flecks of rose gold leaf. Encased in resin, these earrings have multiple layers of shine. Style 3 measures .6 inch diameter. Due to the handmade nature of these earrings, each pair will contain slight variations.
Using some scrap clay in coordinating shades created these beautiful earrings with succulents:
And trying out some simpler, solid-color styles:
I could really go on about each style, so let me know if you have questions about any particular pieces! Have a great week!
